Project for November 9, 2004
The Plan
- probably don't want to be doing much project work this week due to exam
- this week and next week will be short; will combine to make one class
- following week is Allen Downey who won't be covering Project
- following week is last class.
=> there will be only one programming "thing" left to do for the course.
Suggestion/hope: play with graphs
- Some source of data with interconnections w/in the data
- ie the web -- use your webcrawler to tell you whether pages are connected
- semantic web: FOAF is an excellent source; everything is about who knows who
- Olin directory?
- Olinbuster: who has similar movies?
- Amazon: "People who liked this book also liked..."
- We'll be covering graph data and algorithms more explicitly after thanksgiving
- Some source of data with interconnections w/in the data
- If you've been doing something else and are dying to get back to it, that's fine.
- The other topics we'll be covering over the remainder of the semester are not as amenable to projects. Just the graphs.
Prolog stuff
- Steve: A most awesome adventure game about a beast who has stolen your stapler. Get all the items you need, then go hunt that sunuvabitch down.
- Sean: Adventure game about Olin. Like Steve's, with addition of other agents/people(like, say, Jeannine Lalonde), and you need certain keys to get into certain places. Bring your diploma to the president's office, and you win.
Katie: Taxonomies in english ("a _ is a _") using prolog grammar syntax (-->) and parsing.
- Jesus: Sentence generator with proper and pro nouns, int and trans verbs.
>>> It would be cool to make these executables (use gplc, which comes with gprolog I think) and distribute them.
For Next Time
- Let Lynn know what your plan is, be it:
- continuing a past project
- graphs
- ???
- Work on it. We'll look at them ... the last class, and briefly next week.
